MG Motor will launch an electric SUV in India in 2020 and it is likely to come with a 48kWh battery pack.
MG Motor will start vehicle sales in India in the second quarter of 2019 and the first car is going to be a C-segment SUV. After that, the automaker will launch an EV in India in 2020 and this car will be made in India and won’t be imported.
This will be a pure electric SUV and non-EV components will have local sourcing while EV components will come from overseas. SAIC is also the biggest EV company and they also run an EV rental company.
The battery cell will be imported from China but the assembly of the battery is likely to happen locally because SAIC has partnered with Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd who will help them with the assembly.
The MG electric SUV is likely to get a 48 kWh lithium-ion battery pack which will produce more than 100 HP. This EV will go on sale by late-2020.
