MG Comet Blackstorm features blacked-out design, enhanced features & 230 km range
MG Comet Blackstorm edition launched, priced at Rs. 7.80 lakhs (ex-showroom). This latest variant is based on the top-spec Exclusive trim and comes with a premium of Rs. 30,000 over the standard version. Notably, the pricing includes MG’s Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option, requiring an additional Rs. 2.50 per km for battery rental. The company has yet to announce the price for customers opting to purchase the vehicle outright.
Styling and Feature Enhancements
The Comet Blackstorm distinguishes itself with an all-black exterior, dubbed ‘Starry Night,’ complemented by red accents on the bumper and fog lamp surrounds. MG has also given the ‘Comet EV’ and ‘Internet Inside’ badges a darkened finish for a more aggressive look. Customers seeking additional customisation can opt for an accessory package that adds a ‘Blackstorm’ badge on the fender, ‘Morris Garage’ lettering on the hood in red, unique decals, and black plastic wheel covers with red highlights.
Inside, the cabin follows the same dark-themed approach, featuring black leatherette upholstery with ‘Blackstorm’ embroidered in red on the headrests. An upgrade over the standard Exclusive trim is the addition of a four-speaker sound system, replacing the two-speaker setup of the regular model.
Performance and Range
Mechanically, the Comet Blackstorm remains identical to the standard version. It is powered by a 17.3kWh battery pack that delivers power to a 42 HP electric motor, generating 110Nm of torque. The claimed range, as per the Modified Indian Driving Cycle (MIDC), stands at 230 km.
Features and Sales
Key features of the Comet Blackstorm edition include a dual 10.25-inch instrument cluster and infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, connected car technology, LED headlamps and tail-lamps, rear parking camera, keyless entry and dual airbags.
This launch marks the first time MG has extended the Blackstorm edition to its electric vehicle lineup. Previously, only its internal combustion engine (ICE) models had received the Blackstorm treatment. Additionally, MG has reported a 29% year-on-year increase in sales for the Comet in CY2024 compared to CY2023, indicating strong market acceptance for the urban EV.
Bookings Open
MG has commenced bookings for the Comet Blackstorm at a token amount of Rs. 11,000/-. With its black aesthetics and feature enhancements, this edition aims to attract urban EV buyers looking for a unique design and a practical electric driving experience.
