Mercedes Working On Stretched Wheelbase CLA For China

The Mercedes-Benz CLA has been a realm since the time it was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show a few months back. The compact luxury coupe is a straight hit with young buyers who are looking for the perfect combination of performance and the allegiance of the 3-star brand. The CLA is based on the premium hatchback A-Class, platform sharing and the same genesis which makes it the first front-wheel drive coupe from Mercedes-Benz.

The Mercedes-Benz CLA is longer in length than the C-Class saloon, although the amount of legroom and headroom for the rear passengers is not sufficient inside because of the shorter wheelbase and the sloppy roof design of the coupe. The letdown needs to be resolved, if the company wants to bloom the CLA in one of its major markets, China. However, a German publication AMS, has recently reported that the stretched wheelbase might be seen sometime later on the CLA in China.

The alteration to the car’s platform doesn’t seem like too much work for the company as thanks to the front-wheel drive installation, the changes are less-frenetic a job since all the major mechanical components are employed at the front. The changes to the car’s platform will not be seen in the near future. Hence, it is expected to be done by 2015 and the CLA LWB will be added to the local production of China in the same year.

Presently in China, the German automaker is manufacturing the C-Class, E-Class and GLK while the company is planning to commence A-Class and B-Class production by next year in the same factory.
