Unlike earlier reports which stated that the new C-Class will see a 2015 launch, Mercedes-Benz will be launching the fourth generation C-Class by the end of 2014 itself. Our sources confirm that the next generation C-Class has already gone for homologation, while the launch will take place around the festive season this year. Codenamed W205, the 2015 Mercedes C-Class takes heavy inspiration from the flagship S-Class saloon, while also taking cues from the smaller CLA.
The fourth generation C-Class is based on the Mercedes Rearwheel Architecture (MRA) platform, while the dimensions have also increased. The C-Class has grown 95 mm in length, 40 mm in width and the wheelbase has increased by 80 mm from the current model. The added length in wheelbase has also resulted in increased cabin space at the front and rear of the car. The luggage space has increased and can now take up to 480 litres. Compared to the current model, the new C-Class weighs 100 kgs lighter, courtesy of the aluminium hybrid body.
The 2015 C-Class looks extremely stylish with the E-Class inspired headlights and the S-Class like grille with the big and bold three-pointed star at the front. The AMG-inspired wide air intakes add that sporty appeal to the C-Class, while the overall design is also more aerodynamic. Along with the exteriors, the interiors are also a huge departure from the current model. Mercedes has incorporated the incredibly sophisticated cabin of the C-Class with oodles of style. You get a touchpad interface, BMW-like heads-up display; updated infotainment system, propeller like circular air vents, new and improved switch gear and a plethora of features to engulf its passengers in the lap of luxury.
Engine options include 1 diesel and 2 petrol motors with the C180 being powered by a 1.6-litre petrol motor that produces 156 BHP of power and 250 Nm of torque. There is also a 2.0-litre petrol engine that produces 184 BHP and 300 Nm. Diesel power comes from the 2.1-litre motor that produces 170 BHP and 400 Nm. The new C-Class also gets a segment first ‘Airmatic Suspension’ setup as an option. India is most likely to get the C200 petrol and C220 CDI diesel variants on the C-Class. Rivalling against the BMW 3-Series, Audi A4 and the Volvo S60, the 2015 C-Class will certainly give a tough competition to its contemporaries in the segment.
