The Made-in-India Mercedes S-Class costs around Rs. 60 lakhs less than the fully imported models.
Mercedes S-Class CKD launched in India with a starting price of Rs. 1.57 crores (ex-showroom). The locally assembled S-Class loses out on some features that were available with the fully-imported CBU models.
The Mercedes S 350d is priced at Rs. 1.57 crores (ex-showroom), which is Rs. 60 lakhs less expensive than the CBU version. The petrol powered S 450 is priced at Rs. 1.62 crores (ex-showroom) and this one is Rs. 55 lakhs cheaper.
If you notice, the exterior now looks much more toned down than the initially launched models. That’s because the Launch Editions came with a bunch of AMG Line exterior embellishments. The CKD version looks relatively simple but comes with a new set of alloys.
The Mercedes S 350d replaces the S 400d and is powered by a 3.0-litre, in-line 6-cylinder diesel engine producing 286 HP and 600 Nm. The S 450 gets a 3.0-litre, in-line 6-cylinder turbo petrol engine with 48V producing 367 HP and 500 Nm torque.
Both the engines come with a 9G TRONIC auto transmission. While the diesel version has a RWD layout, the S 450 comes with 4MATIC all-wheel drive system.
The 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 12.8-inch portrait OLED touchscreen continue to be on offer. However, the Burmester 4D surround sound system has been discontinued and it gets replaced with the Burmester 3D sound system. Also, the rear-wheel steering system isn’t offered as a standard feature anymore.
With the revised pricing, the new Mercedes S-Class will give some sleepless nights to the BMW 7-Series and Audi A8.
