The price of the Mercedes Maybach S-Class rises till Rs. 3.2 crores
The Mercedes Maybach S-Class has been introduced in India at a starting price of Rs. 2.5 crores for the locally assembled S580 4Matic and Rs. 3.2 crores (prices are ex-showroom) for the fully imported S680 4Matic.
These models have been launched for people who deem the current S-Class uncouth and want much more refinement and, of course, luxury.
When compared with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class looks more posher. Up front, the car looks completely new thanks to the revised radiator grille and bumper. Even the bonnet is different.
Along the sides, it is evident that the Maybach S-Class is longer than the ‘regular’ S-Class and this model can be easily identified even by non-petrol heads thanks to the illuminated Maybach logo on the rear pillar.
While the S580 has 19-inch wheels, the S680 rides on 20-inch wheels (design and finish are different), and the top-of-the-line model gets as many as 10, 2-tone paint options, each of which take quite a lot of time to be completed.
Being Maybach-branded models that are based on the S-Class, the S580 and and S680 are equipped to the brim with new age and convenient features and of course have top-notch leather interior upholstery.
There rear doors close with a simple gesture and the sunroof can also be operated through by waving one’s hand, rear occupants get an entertainment system, while there are screens upfront for the instrumentation, infotainment and air-con systems and many other features.
The seats are heated and cooled and can provide a massage to their occupant, while the “chauffeur” mode allows the rear occupant to motor the front passenger seat forward.
Of course, there are optional extras that customers can opt for. The S680 can be equipped with a 3D digital instrument cluster and an Urban Guard pack that monitors the car’s interior, detects parking damage and sends a notification to the owner, among other things.
Powering the S580 is a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 with EQ Boost mild-hybrid tech. The power unit delivers 503 BHP and 700 Nm. On the other hand, the S680 has under its bonnet a hand-built, twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre V12 motor putting out 612 HP and 900 torques.
Both cars come with a 9-speed automatic gearbox that is paired to an all-wheel drive and rear-axle steering system. They even get an exclusive Maybach drive mode too.
As for safety, the cars come with Level 2 autonomous driving tech, ADAS (including evasive steering assist and active brake assist), and there are as many as 13 airbags inside to keep the occupants safe in case a collision cannot be avoided.
