The uber-luxurious SUV will be offered with a single mild-hybrid unit.
Mercedes has unveiled the opulent new SUV, the Maybach GLS at the 2019 Guangzhou Motor Show, in China. The vehicle is set to rival the likes of the Bentley Bentayga and Range Rover with a mild-hybrid drivetrain and a revamped interior.
The Mercedes-Maybach GLS is positioned alongside the S-Class based Maybach sedan and incorporates many elements from the same. It gets chrome grille with vertical louvres, an optional two-tone exterior paint scheme in eight different colour combinations, chrome highlights within the side window surrounds and along the sills, standard 22-inch (and optional 23-inch) wheels, electrically extending running boards and chromed tail-pipes as well as a signature cross-rib.
The cabin of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS is fitted with Nappa leather upholstery along with a host of features such as reclining rear seats with a massage function, a fixed centre console with folding tables and a refrigerator, among others. The SUV offers a capacious 520 litres of storage space as well.
The uber-luxurious SUV will be offered with a single mild-hybrid unit that combines a turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine with a 48V integrated starter motor to provide an overall output of 558 PS at 6000 RPM and 730 Nm of torque from 2500-5000 RPM. The powertrain is mated to a torque converter automatic gearbox and 4Matic all-wheel drive. Mercedes-Benz claims that the Maybach GLS 600 4Matic can sprint 0-100 kmph in just 4.9 seconds, while the top speed is limited to 250 km/hr.
While China, North America and Europe will be the first markets for the Maybach GLS, India is likely to have this luxurious offering on its shores as well.
