Mercedes Maybach GLS gets facelifted while the S63 Is A Performance Limo
Mercedes has launched the Maybach GLS 600 facelift in India with a price tag of Rs. 3.35 crores along with the AMG S 63 E Performance, priced at Rs. 3.30 crores. There is an Edition 1 of the S63 as well, which is priced at Rs. 3.80 crores (all prices, ex-showroom).
Maybach GLS 600
The latest iteration of the Maybach GLS 600 features subtle exterior updates, enhanced interior options and an upgraded 4.0-litre V8 engine.
The Maybach GLS 600 receives a refreshed grille and a redesigned bumper, featuring a Maybach logo pattern on the air intakes. The rear end sports new LED tail-lamps and Maybach-specific tail pipes. Standard colour options include Black, Polar White and Silver Metallic, with dual-tone paint schemes available as optional extras. The SUV rides on standard 22-inch multi-spoke wheels, while 23-inch classic deep-dish monobloc Maybach wheels are offered as an optional upgrade.
Inside, the updates focus on new software and trim options. The latest-gen MBUX software, featuring new graphics and updated telematics is integrated along with a new steering wheel and revised AC vents. Additionally, it comes with fingerprint sensor and hand gesture controls for selective commands.
The rear seats remain the highlight of the Mercedes Maybach GLS 600, offering ventilation, massage functions and a recline angle of up to 43.5 degrees. Standard features include an extendable leg rest, a central tablet on the fold-down armrest, twin rear 11.6-inch MBUX screens and a 590W Burmester 3D surround sound system. Other notable features are Maybach-specific ambient lighting, Level 2 ADAS and Mercedes’ signature Energizing package.
The updated Maybach GLS 600 is powered by a 4.0-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 engine producing 557 HP and 770 Nm of peak torque, an increase of 40 Nm over the previous version. The engine is paired with a 48V integrated starter generator, adding an extra 22 HP and 250 Nm. The power is transmitted to all four wheels through a 9-speed automatic transmission. It does 0 to 100 km/hr in 4.9 seconds, with a top speed of 250 km/hr. The GLS 600 comes standard with adaptive dampers and buyers can opt for a fully active suspension system that includes an exclusive Maybach drive mode.
Mercedes AMG S 63 E
Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance is positioned as the new flagship variant of the S-Class range in India. This launch marks the arrival of the most powerful iteration of the S-Class, featuring a plug-in hybrid 4.0-litre V8 engine, making it the second plug-in hybrid offering from Mercedes in India after the GT63 S E Performance. The vehicle also boasts AMG-specific updates to its exterior and interior.
The AMG S 63 E Performance is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, now coupled with a 13.1kWh battery and an electric motor on the rear axle. The electric motor alone generates 190 HP and 320 Nm of torque, contributing to a combined system output of 802 HP and 1430 Nm torque.
Equipped with a 9-speed automatic gearbox, the S 63 delivers power to all four wheels through the 4Matic system. It features a ‘Race Start’ function that optimises launch, enabling a 0-100 km/hr sprint in just 3.3 seconds. The vehicle offers eight drive modes, including an all-electric mode with a range of up to 33 km and a speed limiter set at 125 km/hr. Additional handling and ride comfort are provided by rear-axle steering with up to 3-degrees of steering angle, air suspension, active roll bars and optional carbon ceramic brakes.
The AMG S 63 distinguishes itself with AMG-specific styling cues, including the first-ever Panamericana grille on an S-Class, a sportier front bumper with large air intakes, a pronounced chin and an AMG-spec rear diffuser with quad exhaust pipes. Buyers can opt for the Night exterior package, which includes dark chrome or gloss black highlights and a carbon-fibre package that adds carbon-fibre trims to various exterior components. Standard 20-inch, 10-spoke alloy wheels are complemented by an optional 21-inch wheel choice.
Inside, the AMG S 63 features a new four-spoke AMG steering wheel and AMG-specific pedals. The latest MBUX software includes AMG and hybrid-specific displays and functions, highlighted by an exclusive “Super Sport” theme. The dashboard is dominated by a 12.8-inch OLED touchscreen with a waterfall effect. Standard amenities include 4-zone climate control, a Burmester 3D surround sound system, 64-colour ambient lighting, and Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
Optional features enhance luxury and convenience with executive lounge seats, a rear seat entertainment package, an augmented reality heads-up display with 3D graphics, a removable tablet on the fold-down central armrest and folding tables for the rear seats. A variety of Nappa leather upholstery options and dashboard finishes in wood or carbon fibre are also available.
For an additional Rs. 50 lakhs, Mercedes offers the exclusive AMG S 63 E Performance Edition 1 variant. This limited edition model comes with a Manufaktur Alpine Grey exterior, unique matte black 21-inch forged AMG wheels and red brake callipers. The AMG Night package is standard on this variant.
The interior of the Edition 1 is upgraded with the AMG Exclusive package, featuring black Nappa leather upholstery with contrast red stitching, AMG crests embossed on the headrests, a carbon-fibre trim in black and red and an ‘Edition 1’ plaque on the centre console.
