Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV launched in India, first Maybach badged electric car

Mercedes-Benz has introduced its first-ever electric vehicle under the prestigious Maybach brand in India, the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV, priced at Rs 2.25 crores (ex-showroom). This premium SUV becomes the brand’s flagship electric offering in the country and the second most expensive electric SUV in the Indian market, following the Lotus Eletre. The Maybach EQS SUV distinguishes itself with exclusive design elements, technological advancements, and luxurious features.

Design and Features

Although it shares its dimensions with the standard EQS SUV, the Maybach version introduces a more opulent aesthetic. One of the most distinctive changes is the front grille – the Maybach EQS SUV sports a large black grille panel adorned with vertical chrome-plated strips, referred to as the Maybach waterfall grille. The use of indium in this grille allows radar beams to pass through without requiring a separate radar panel.

Further elevating the luxury appeal, the SUV offers an optional dual-tone paint scheme, a hallmark of Maybach models. The three-pointed star now sits on top of the bonnet, enhancing its distinctive styling.

Inside, the Maybach EQS retains the layout of the standard EQS SUV, including the triple-screen display. However, it comes with exclusive Maybach-specific start-up sequences and a comprehensive rear-seat entertainment system. This includes two 11.6-inch displays mounted on the back of the front seats, along with an MBUX tablet that can be used both inside and outside the vehicle.

Customisation Options

The Maybach EQS SUV comes with two notable optional packages:

  1. Chauffeur Package – Designed to improve rear-seat comfort for passengers.
  2. First-Class Rear Package – Offers premium features like thermal cup holders, a dedicated shelf for the rear tablet, USB-C ports, and HDMI interfaces. Additionally, customers can opt for luxury add-ons like folding tables, a cooling compartment, and silver-plated champagne goblets for an enhanced travel experience.

Performance and Powertrain

In terms of performance, the Maybach EQS SUV is only available in the 680 trim in India. It features a dual-motor setup producing 658 HP and 950 Nm of torque, powering all four wheels via the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. The SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/hr in 4.4 seconds and has a top speed of 210 km/hr. The car offers an impressive WLTP-certified range of 611 km on a single charge.

Charging the EQS SUV is efficient with its 122kWh battery. Using a 200kW DC fast charger, the battery can be charged from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 31 minutes. Mercedes claims a quick 20-minute charge can provide up to 300 km of range.

Market Position

The Maybach EQS SUV enters the Indian market as a top-tier luxury electric SUV. It stands apart with the prestigious Maybach badge, bespoke luxury features and advanced technology, making it a unique proposition in the premium electric SUV segment.

While the Maybach EQS SUV does not have any direct rivals, it sets new benchmarks for luxury and performance in the rapidly growing electric vehicle space in India.
