The Mercedes-Maybach EQS Concept previews the first electric Maybach
The Mercedes-Maybach EQS Concept showcased recently at Munich provides a clear idea about the very first fully-electric Maybach.
The design of the car, says Mercedes, follows the concept of ‘purpose design’. It sports a 2-tone paint scheme and the design highlight is the lack of breaks and edges, making it a (visually) very smooth machine.
It does come with a huge radiator grille-like element, flanked by a couple of sleek LED headlights, while the actual air inlet is below.
Being a Maybach does mean luxury is at the heart of the vehicle. Thus, there is proper use of chrome almost everywhere (even on the rear spiler), the SUV wears 24-inch ‘bowl’ wheels and even the running boards are aerodynamically optimised.
In the interior, the Mercedes-Maybach EQS Concept has a proper lounge theme. There are trim elements in white piano lacquer, along with ones that are rose gold coloured.
Like the front seats, the rear ones are also individual chairs and between them is a vase insert(!) and underneath it is a storage area.
But, the biggest attractive point in the cabin of the Mercedes-Maybach EQS Concept is the MBUX Hyperscreen. Of course, there are other features like the uniquely shaped steering ‘wheel’, ambient lighting, Mercedes me connect, and more.
That includes the comfort doors, wherein the door handles extend when a person approaches the vehicle. For the driver, the door automatically opens and he can open the rear doors remotely via MBUX.
The luxurious electric vehicle (EV) concept, which is a near-production one-off, is based on the German brand’s modular architecture which will also be used by the ‘regular’ EQS SUV that will go into production come 2022. Naturally, the Maybach EQS will follow suit.
This behemoth of a luxury vehicle will come with around 600 km range on a full charge, which should be plenty enough to drive about around the most poshest parts of any capital city around the world, the natural habitat of such a vehicle.
