The S500 and S63 AMG are powered by V8 engines and houses all the luxuries seen on the four-door saloon version, while offering a more striking outlook.
Regarded as best car in the world, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class is an extremely popular luxury saloon loved by everyone who appreciates the good things in life. With the domestic luxury market booming and the Stuttgart based giant extremely aggressive about its operations in the country, Mercedes will finally introduce the Coupe version of the new generation W222 S-Class in India on 30th July. What makes this even more interesting is the fact that the S-Class Coupe will be available in two very distinctive variants including the S500 and the outlandishly powerful S63 AMG.
Starting with the more sedate of the two, the 2015 Mercedes S500 Coupe gets a bold front fascia, differentiating the model from the saloon version and sports a larger grille while the coupe roofline seamlessly merges into the boot-lid at the rear. Power on the S500 comes from a 4.7-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine that is capable of churning out 455 HP and 700 Nm of torque, paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The S500 is targeted more towards luxury, hence is a tad bit slower than the AMG version with 0-100 km/hr coming up in 4.6 seconds, while the top speed is limited to 250 km/hr.
On the other hand, the Mercedes S63 AMG can be identified by the sportier bumpers, AMG alloy wheels and quad exhausts, while power comes from a 5.5-litre V8 Bi-Turbo petrol engine tuned to produce 585 HP of power and a whopping 900 Nm of torque, paired to a 7-speed AMG SpeedShift transmission. Despite a weight of 1995 kgs, the S63 AMG puts all that brutish power to good use and is capable of doing the 0-100 km/hr run in 3.9 seconds or 4.2 seconds (in All-Wheel Drive trim). The top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/hr, but can be increase to 300 km/hr with the optional AMG Driver’s package.
In addition to the S500 Coupe and S63 AMG models, Mercedes-Benz will also launch a new paint scheme on the G63 AMG SUV on 30th July for the Indian market. The company is certainly taking the luxury segment very seriously and buyers will be spoilt for choice with the options available. Prices for all the three models will be north of the Rs. 1.50 crore mark (ex-showroom).
