Mercedes GLE Imported To India For Homologation

2015 Mercedes GLE Imported

Mercedes has imported two units of the 2015 Mercedes GLE 350 d 4MATIC to India from Germany for homologation purposes, pointing towards a launch in our market very soon.

Mercedes might even bring the Hybrid GLE to India later

Mercedes has been offering the ML-Class range of premium SUV in India for quite a while now. The range received a good response from the Indian public and became an instant hit. The company had recently given the ML-Class a reworking, making it sharper than before. The range also got brand new engines and most importantly a new name as well, the GLE. The GLE was unveiled on 1st April 2015 at the New York Motor Show and got a terrific response to say the least.

The German luxury giant was expected to launch the new GLE-Class in India in the first half of 2016. But it seems that Mercedes is looking to bring in the model even sooner as two units of the right-hand drive Mercedes GLE 350 d 4MATIC model have been imported to India from Germany for homologation purposes. The imported models are powered by a 2987cc, turbocharged V6 diesel engine that can generate 258 HP and a massive 620 Nm of torque (that’s huge). The diesel engine comes mated to a nine-speed 9G-TRONIC automatic gearbox, has a full-time all-wheel drive system and can be fitted with an off-road reduction gear and inter-axle differential lock.

The premium SUV is expected to be offered with a number of optional packages including the Mercedes’ Active Curve System that has been derived directly from the S-Class Coupe. This uses active anti-rollbars to tackle the bodyroll that comes from high-speed cornering, allowing faster and flatter direction changes. The German car manufacturer has surely surprised everyone by deciding to bring the car to India sooner than expected. Prices of the SUV are still unknown but is expected to mirror the same of the ML-Class, if not costing a bit more.
