Mercedes-Benz had showcased the concept version of the GLA45 AMG crossover at the LA Auto Show which was held in November last year. The new vehicle was well received for its revolutionary design and recently Mercedes-Benz has revealed the complete details of the production version of the GLA45 AMG crossover. The new vehicle developed by the Stuttgart based automaker is expected to feature futuristic styling cues like the A45 hatchback and deliver adventurous performance. The GLA45 AMG crossover shares some design elements with the normal A45 hatchback.
The Mercedes GLA45 AMG crossover will be powered by the same 2.0-litre turbocharged I-4 unit that does duty on the A45 AMG. This unit will deliver a maximum power of 360 PS and maximum torque of 450 Nm. The crossover uses the same speed shift DCT 7-speed dual clutch AMG automatic transmission which channels power to all four wheels. Mercedes has equipped this crossover with an electronic speed limiter which has a limit of 250 km/hr and the company claims the car can complete the 0-100 km/hr sprint in just 4.8 seconds.
The powertrain of the GLA45 AMG features a weight optimized forged steel crankshaft assembly, forged pistons, Nano slide cylinder lining, sand cast aluminium crankcase and a butterfly valve in the exhaust system. The crossover gets an AMG tuned suspension setup which enhances ride quality. The exteriors feature a funky design with AMG stripes and distinct 5-spoke alloy wheels which use titanium grey or matte black shades. The interiors are equipped with comfortable leather sport seats and use carbon fibre materials for various bits.
The GLA45 AMG has a claimed fuel efficiency of 14.42 km/l. This crossover will be available exclusively with Black, Silver and Grey shades. Mercedes-Benz hopes that the GLA45 AMG will fit into its high performance SUV family. The production version of the GLA45 AMG will make its global debut at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show next week followed by the European launch in July 2014. The American market will receive this performance crossover by the end of the year.
