Mercedes G-Class Electric
Retains the boxy shape but gets EV elements as well

The Mercedes G-Wagon is one of the most iconic SUVs in the world and what started off as a pure old-school off-roader many decades back is now a highly aspirational performance SUV with a great blend of modern + rugged vibes. To dial this up even further, Mercedes brought in the electric G-Wagon globally earlier this year and the vehicle is all set to be launched in India.

Pre-bookings for the vehicle have begun and will continue till 15th July. The vehicle will be available in a single variant G 580 and will have a similar boxy design as its ICE counterpart but will also have a lot of EV-specific elements.

Instead of a traditional grille, it gets a gloss black fascia along with round LED lights, 18-inch wheels and a storage area at the rear instead of a spare wheel. On the inside, the vehicle gets features like temperature-controlled cupholders, wireless charging, keyless entry, rear seat entertainment package, Burmester audio system with 12.3-inch touchscreen, etc.

The Mercedes G 580 gets a ladder-frame construction with a 116 kWh battery pack and four electric motors delivering a total output of 580 HP and 1165 Nm of torque. The vehicle will offer a maximum range of 386 kms. The vehicle has a top speed of 180 km/hr and 0-100 km/hr takes 4.4 seconds.

Apart from this, Mercedes is also readying the new E-Class, EQS Maybach and an AMG model before the end of the year.

Currently, the G-Wagon is priced at Rs. 3.07 Crore for the G400d and Rs. 4.73 Crore for the G63 AMG (all prices, on-road Mumbai).
