Mercedes EQG 580 & EQS 450 SUVs Launched In India

Mercedes has launched two electric SUVs in India, the EQG 580 along with EQS 450

The EQG 580: Electric G-Wagon!

Mercedes has taken a significant leap in India’s luxury EV segment by launching the EQG 580, an all-electric iteration of the iconic G-Wagon. Priced at an ex-showroom value of ₹3 crores, the EQG 580 merges the G-Class’s heritage with cutting-edge EV technology, targeting a niche yet growing market of eco-conscious luxury car buyers.

Key Details & Configuration

The Mercedes EQG 580 retains its legendary off-road DNA while offering a futuristic electric powertrain. It comes equipped with a four-motor setup delivering all-wheel drive and advanced torque distribution for rugged terrains. Built on the G-Class platform, the EQG 580 maintains the classic boxy silhouette but features updated components to accommodate its electric architecture. The SUV is equipped with a robust battery pack designed to handle tough conditions, ensuring durability and reliability.

Exterior

The EQG 580 combines the signature G-Wagon aesthetic with modern EV cues. Its iconic upright stance, round LED headlights, and wide wheel arches remain intact, while the grille has been replaced with a sleek, illuminated black panel featuring the Mercedes-Benz logo. Enhancing its futuristic appeal are blue accents and a unique wheel-mounted spare tire housing, which doubles as a storage compartment for charging cables. Premium alloy wheels and subtle aerodynamic enhancements further distinguish the EQG 580 from its ICE counterpart.

Interior

Step inside the EQG 580, and you’re greeted by an interior that blends traditional craftsmanship with state-of-the-art technology. The cabin boasts premium leather upholstery, metal and wood accents, and a widescreen cockpit featuring dual 12.3-inch displays for infotainment and instrument clusters. The MBUX system supports voice commands, over-the-air updates, and real-time navigation with EV-specific features like range mapping and nearby charging stations. Heated and ventilated seats, ambient lighting with 64 color options, and a Burmester 3D surround sound system ensure unmatched luxury and comfort.

Powertrain & Range

The EQG 580 is powered by four electric motors—one on each wheel—delivering a combined output of approximately 587 BHP and 1164 Nm of torque. This setup ensures excellent off-road capability, with advanced drive modes for sand, rock, and snow terrains. The battery, with a capacity of 116 kWh, offers a range of up to 473 km (WLTP). It supports DC fast charging, enabling a 10-80% charge in under 32 minutes, making it a practical choice for long-distance and off-road enthusiasts.

Pricing & Market Positioning

Priced at ₹3 crores (ex-showroom), the EQG 580 positions itself as a luxury statement for affluent buyers seeking sustainability without compromising on performance or prestige. Since the regular G-Wagon is sold out, one can opt for the electric version of it since it defines the G swag. For India, there is barely any competition for an out-blown electric off-roader, however, the EQG 580 is tailored for a discerning clientele who value exclusivity, cutting-edge technology, and the rugged charm of the G-Wagon.
