The recently spied Mercedes EQE SUV looks production-ready
The EQE SUV that Mercedes is testing in the cold weather has been spied. The German brand is rather serious about dominating the electric vehicle (EV) segment and will further expand its pure-electric line-up with models like the EQE SUV.
Like many of the car manufacturer’s products, the SUV variant of the EQE EV looks to be a smaller version of the EQS SUV which is also under development.
Despite being completely disguised, this particular development mule does seem to have the production-spec body. Do not be fooled by the squarish opening up front, for the car will feature a simulated grille, like the EQS sedan.
The actual opening is right at the bottom of the front end, which will provide enough cooling to keep the car’s systems running at their optimal temperature.
Along the sides, the electric SUV’s aero-optimised wheels, raked windshield and sloping roofline can be seen, while at the back, the EQE SUV has a curved/rounded profile with split LED tail lamps, a shortish tailgate and a neat bumper.
In addition, the recently spied Mercedes EQE SUV also features flush door handles, and inside, it had a digital instrument screen and chunky steering wheel, while the remainder of the dashboard was covered.
It is likely that the EQE SUV will be offered with the same powertrains as the sedan. The base rear-wheel drive ‘350’ model will come with a 215 kW (288 BHP) motor with 530 Nm of torque.
While there will also be a 4-wheel drive and an AMG variant (with around 500 kW or 670 BHP) added to the line-up later on. All grades should feature a 90 kWh battery pack, but due to the additional weight of the SUV version of the EQE, range should be less than the sedan’s claimed 545-660 km.
The car should support up to 170 kW DC charging, and can be equipped with a 22 kW on-board charger, along with air suspension and rear-axle steering.
To debut after the EQS SUV gets introduced in Europe next year, thus likely in the second half of 2022, the electric SUV is expected to join the EQC in the Indian market.
