The Volvo V90 Cross Country rival, Mercedes E-Class All-Terrain has been unveiled at the 2018 Auto Expo.
Mercedes isn’t new to making estates, but off-road focused estates, yes. The E-Class All-Terrain is on display at Mercedes’ Auto Expo stands. This Merc is a rival to the Volvo V90 Cross Country that was launched last year in India.
Lookswise, yes, you can call this an E-Class on steroids. It marries the opulence of the E-Class sedan and the ruggedness and practicality of probably the GLC/GLE SUVs. The front grille will remind you of the facelifted GLA and there is the usual headlight set up as seen in the E-Class. Since this is an All-Terrain version, it gets a dual-tone bumper to make it look tough. Head to the side of the car and instantly noticeable are the black body cladding and the 19-inch alloy wheels. The rear has been designed very proportionately and to some, the tail-lights might remind of the GLC.
Interior is similar to the E-Class sedan but there are some subtle extras that the All-Terrain version gets, for instance, the stainless steel sports pedals with rubber studs, floor mats with the word ‘All-Terrain’ engraving. The aluminium carbon fibre trim that separates the upper and lower dashboard is exclusive to the All-Terrain variant. The India-spec E-Class All-Terrain will be made available with a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine that churns out 194 HP of power and 400 Nm of torque. The powertrain comes mated to a 9-speed G-Tronic automatic gearbox and also features the company’s 4Matic 4WD system.
The E-Class All-Terrain is expected to go on sale later this year and post that Audi is also likely to join the bandwagon via the launch of the A6 All-Road Quattro.
