While Mercedes has just launched the CLA45 AMG in India, it has been confirmed by the company that the CLA sedan will be launched in early 2015. Less than six months are left for the launch of the sedan. The Mercedes CLA is available in both petrol and diesel variants and Mercedes will be launching both engine options in India too. The CLA is one looker of a sedan which packs in a coupe-like body with four doors. While the CLA45 AMG is designed to provide performance as first priority, the regular CLA will offer more comfort along with decent power on tap.
The Mercedes CLA is offered with a number of engine options globally. While petrol engines on offer are of 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre capacities with power ranging from 122 PS to 211 PS, Mercedes is providing two options for the diesel variants too, i.e. 1.8-litre and 2.2-litre. The CLA sedan is available in the following variants – CLA 180, CLA 180 BlueEfficiency, CLA 200, CLA 250, CLA 250 4MATIC, CLA 200 CDI and CLA 220 CDI. Nothing has been made official on what engine options will be offered in India.
Mercedes also provides a range of transmission options for the CLA. The CLA 180 and CLA 200 get a 6-speed manual and 7-speed DCT while the CLA 250 and 250 4MATIC variants only get the 7-speed DCT on offer. The CLA 180 BlueEfficiency is offered only with a 6-speed manual transmission. For the diesel variants, Mercedes offers the 6-speed manual and 7-speed DCT with the CLA 200 CDI but the CLA 220 CDI gets only the 7-speed DCT. Mercedes will not launch all engine variants and transmissions in India, a manual is completely ruled out too.
Mercedes is in the process of phasing out the current generation C-Class. The new C-Class has already been unveiled and it will be launched in India early next year. The new C-Class will be priced above the outgoing model. Mercedes will launch the CLA sedan in the current C’s price range. The CLA will fight it out with the Audi A3 which is slotted just below the A4.
