Mercedes-Benz is all set to launch the new M-Class in the Indian market next month. The first lot of the new M-Class would be brought to the Indian market as fully loaded CBU imports. The 2012 Mercedes M-Class is a 5-seater SUV and is 23mm longer and 15mm wider than the old version. The height has also been reduced by 20mm. The M-Class also receives some minor exterior style changes like the pronounced wheel arches and redesigned headlights. These changes have made the car look more sporty and dynamic.
Mercedes Benz also tells that they have worked extensively on the chassis, making it a more fun to drive car. Mercedes Benz has particularly worked upon the special double wishbone suspension setup of the M-Class to improve its dynamic properties. Tuning the suspension setup will directly affect the ride and handling characteristics of the vehicle. The company plans to bring in the ML 350 CDI first to the Indian market. The ML350 CDI develops 258 BHP of power, which is 34 BHP more power and 63.2 NM more torque than its predecessor.
Mated to this is Mercedes’ 7G-Tronic automatic transmission sending power to an all-wheel drive system. It also comes with an optional six-stage on/off-road package. Other engine options are expected to soon follow the 350 CDI. The car is expected to be priced about Rs. 69 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai). In future the company might bring the cost down with more localization and assembly operations being carried out here.
