Mercedes-Benz India Rolls Out 200,000th Locally Produced Car From Its Manufacturing Plant In Chakan

Mercedes-Benz completed a historic milestone of rolling out its 200,000th locally produced vehicle in India. The milestone vehicle is the Mercedes EQS SUV, and the brand celebrated by showcasing the electric SUV in its manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune. The manufacturing facility has been able to produce cars through 100% renewable energy use, demonstrating the brand’s global sustainable manufacturing strategy.

Mercedes-Benz produced 50,000 cars locally from the start of 1995 to 2014. Later, the production accelerated exponentially to 150,000 cars from 2015 to 2025. The most notable aspect of this figure is that out of the total cars produced, 50,000 cars were produced in the last 2 years.

The Indian manufacturing facility was the first time the brand produced a Mercedes-Maybach S500 outside Germany in 2015. The plant has also been primarily used for the production of EVs from the company’s portfolio. This includes the Mercedes EQS 580 sedan, which commenced local production in 2022. Mercedes-Benz also localized the production of the EQS 580 SUV.

Mercedes-Benz India’s production facility currently produces 11 luxury models in India. It has also committed to the Indian automotive market by investments totalling Rs. 3000 crore. This includes a fresh investment of Rs. 200 crore in 2024.
