Mercedes-Benz is developing 2 more affordable models based on the A-Class that will likely sit below the luxury hatchback and become entry-level cars of the brand.
First up, the brand will introduce the A City, which is a shortened 3-door version of the current generation A-Class. This car is expected to be introduced overseas next year with an asking price of about 20,000 euros (Rs. 17.56 lakhs).
Then, by the year 2023, Mercedes will introduce a jacked up version of the A-Class named A Adventure with roof rails, raised ride height, body cladding and different bumpers and wheels.
Both cars will be front-wheel-drive only, will likely be powered by a 1.6-litre turbo petrol putting out 120 PS, feature some sort of electrification and help the German carmaker gain more sales volume when introduced overseas.
Mercedes has targeted the compact car class, for this is where it can lure in new and younger buyers. Also, with the way the carmaker is going about its EV business, these models might spawn an electric-only alternative in the future as well.
But, it is unlikely that the above mentioned affordable Mercedes cars will make their way to India, for they might not make good business sense here.
This year, Mercedes-Benz will launch 15 models in India including the AMG GT Black Series, A-Class Limousine and new GLA starting from the second quarter. It retailed a total of 7893 vehicles last year.
