Mercedes-Benz is aiming to grab number one spot in India from Audi and will cross the 10,000 units sales mark yet again.
After a successful 2014, German luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz is aiming to cross four digits in sales again this year. Both Audi and Mercedes crossed the 10,000 sales barrier last year, which was their highest recorded sales for a year, with the former premium car manufacturer taking the top spot. Mercedes-Benz global head, Dr. Dieter Zetsche at the Geneva Motor Show revealed that they are aiming to be on pole position this year by overtaking Audi.
Dr. Zetsche said that their recent success in the Indian premium car segment is due to its aggressive strategy towards selling compact models such as the A, B, CLA and GLA Class. Strong flagship models like the S-Class remains to be one of their trump cards in the higher premium segments, but Dr. Zetsche feels that their entire portfolio of offerings which they are still further developing will help them gain an upper hand over its rivals in markets like China, US and India where they are aiming to be numero uno.
Mercedes-Benz is already having the largest annual car production among all premium luxury brands rolling out 20,000 units from its Pune based plant. Mercedes are currently not looking to invest in a much larger plant at the moment as they are able to cater to sales quite comfortably. They are also considering the option to export cars from the same plant at the moment.
Mercedes-Benz has shown the largest growth in its portfolio of premium cars in India and other markets for a couple of years now and they have planned to launch 15 new models in India this year, out of which three have already been revealed. The next few launches in India include the E-Class cabriolet and the CLS Coupe.
