May 2022 Compact SUV Sales – Tata Nexon continues to lead the pack by a comfortable margin
Except for Renault Kiger, all the top-sellers registered impressive growth in May, 2022, compact SUV sales. Specifically Mahindra XUV300, Toyota Urban Cruiser, and Maruti Suzuki Vitara have posted excellent YoY growth this time around.
Tata Nexon continues to lead the pack by a big margin. Selling 14,614 units, it’s currently India’s highest selling SUV even ahead of Hyundai Creta by a big margin. In May, Nexon has posted a satisfactory 127 percent YoY growth, more than doubling its Covid sales.
Distantly following the Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza took the second place. Selling 10,312 units, the Vitara is behind Nexon by a good 4302 units. Still the once-best-selling-compact-SUV has posted an impressive YoY growth of 289 percent.
Tata’s latest little SUV, Punch, is holding on to the third place like a rock. It’s consistently selling more than 10k units and might soon make great in-roads into the segment. At number 4, Hyundai Venue’s sales nearly remained unaffected with over 8k units sold.
While Kia Sonet achieved a comfortable fifth spot with sales nearly equal to that of the Venue, it has witnessed the least growth in the segment after the Renault Kiger. The Mahindra XUV300, on the other hand, has witnessed 4-digit growth.
At number 6, the Ssangyong Tivoli inspired SUV has sold a rather good 5022 units with a YoY growth of 1901 percent. Similarly, Thar has also brought accolades for Mahindra by displacing Toyota Urban Cruiser for the seventh place.
Thar continues to register impressive sales despite its creature comfort limitations. Its primary audience are off-road enthusiasts and leisure travellers. Toyota Urban Cruiser took the next spot with a YoY growth of 739 percent.
Finally, there was action in the last 2 spots. Nissan Magnite has overtaken Renault Kiger. The Magnite has sold close to 2k units while the Kiger could hardly replicate last year’s performance.
