May 2020 UV sales are out and it’s a nightmare for all the carmakers. With the rigorous BS6 transition period and the disastrous lockdown, UV sales have taken a big hit.
Maruti Suzuki has managed to retain the top spot. They have sold 2353 units of Ertiga but there’s 73 percent fall in YoY sales. Mahindra Bolero with 1715 units comes second but 71 percent degrowth.
Maruti Eeco is down to third spot with 1617 units and a huge 91 percent dent in sales. Renault Triber takes the fourth spot at 931 units. The new AMT variant might boost the sales in the coming months.
The Toyota Innova Crysta has also taken a big hit with 759 units and 89 percent negative figures. Maruti XL6 does 711 units while GO+ reports only 62 units.
Considering the price, the premium MPVs like Kia Carnival and Toyota Vellfire have done well with 50 and 32 units each.
Mahindra Marazzo BS6 version is yet to be dispatched and hence no sales last month. The Xylo is discontinued along with Tata Hexa, Honda BR-V, Renault Lodgy, Maruti Omni and Mahindra Thar.
However, the Mahindra Thar is making a comeback soon in a new generation avatar. It is expected to go on sale in August this year. Meanwhile, some dealers have already started accepting bookings for the same.
While the May 2020 UV sales looks quite weak, it is still better than 0 sales in April. We expect the numbes to grow gradually in the coming months.
