The May 2020 compact SUV sales numbers are out and they’re quite alarming. Better than 0 sales in April 2020 but still 87 percent fall in numbers as the market reopens after lockdown.
As expected, there is a substantial change in positions compared to March 2020. Due to many factors including supply chain issues, production constraints and restricted zones, the sales are quite varying.
Mahindra has taken the top spot for the first time here. Leading the chart is the Mahindra XUV300 with 1257 units and 75 percent fall in YoY numbers.
The segment leader Hyundai Venue now takes the 2nd spot with 1242 units and 82 percent fall in sales. It’s been exactly a year now since the Venue launched in India.
The Tata Nexon takes the 3rd spot with 623 units sold and 86 percent degrowth. Surprisingly, the former segment king Maruti Vitara Brezza is on 4th spot with 572 units and 93 percent fall in sales.
Ford has sold 331 units of EcoSport taking the 5th spot, witnessing 91 percent degrowth. Honda WR-V comes 6th with 114 units and 93 percent decline. No sales of TUV300 reported in May 2020.
Compact SUVs contributed to a cumulative sales of 4139 units. It is quite low compared to last year’s 31,966 units. The segment is expected to grow in the coming months.
