Maserati Ghibli Hybrid has been revealed as a mild-hybrid with a 48V alternator and an e-Booster that is coupled to a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine.
The Modena-based manufacturer has not altered the design much, but has given the car a new front grille and new light cluster at the rear that resembles the 3200 GT.
Blue accents are present all over the car to differentiate it from other models. The fender vents, brake callipers and the thunderbolt in the oval that encloses the trident on the C-pillar now get blue accents.
This theme is carried inside, especially on the embroidered seams of the seats. New features offered include the Maserati Connect program, Intelligent Assistant multimedia system which is customisable and has a bigger 10.1-inch screen.
The Trident brand says the 2.0-litre petrol engine with the 48 volt alternator and an additional electric supercharger (e-Booster), supported by a battery is unique in its segment.
The hybrid technology recovers energy deceleration and braking and stores it in the battery pack that is mounted in the rear of the car and in all, the Maserati Ghibli Hybrid weighs about 80 kg less than the diesel model.
Maserati says the mild-hybrid system will offer improved performance while reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
The Maserati Ghibli Hybrid produces 330 HP of maximum power and 450 Nm of torque. This propels the car to a top speed of 255 km/hr and from 0-100 km/hr in 5.7 seconds.
While we expected the car to be a proper hybrid, since a big deal was made out of it, the mild-hybrid represents the first step in the brand embracing electrification.
The brand’s first all-electric cars will be the new GranTurismo and GranCabrio, scheduled for 2021. This development is all great, now, where is that MC20 super sports car?
