Maruti is planning to launch 3 SUVs in India including the Vitara Brezza, S-Cross and possibly also the full-sized Vitara that debuted at the Paris Motor Show last year.
Maruti Suzuki plans to launch not one but three SUVs in India over the next two years and while the S-Cross has been confirmed for launch in the next few months, the company will be bringing the newly developed YBA (codename) compact SUV to the Indian showrooms to compete against the Ford EcoSport in the segment. Now, an online report states that the upcoming YBA compact SUV has been christened as the ‘Vitara Brezza’ and will make its debut in March 2016.
The Maruti YBA has been testing for quite some time now and shares its design language with the new generation Vitara that made its debut at the Paris Motor Show late last year. With the YBA taking heavy inspiration from new Vitara, the report states that Maruti has decided to retain the Vitara tag and have added the ‘Brezza’ suffix which translates to ‘breeze’ from Spanish. The new Vitara Brezza is looking forward to attracting a younger target audience and will be positioned as a fun vehicle by the company.
The report further states that the 1.3-litre diesel motor will power the Vitara Brezza while an AMT diesel is also said to be on the cards. The trim levels are also said to be finalized and the compact SUV will be available in L, V, V+, Z, and Z+ variants. In terms of pricing, the compact SUV will start at around Rs. 7.5 lakhs, going up to Rs. 11 lakhs (on-road) and will be offered with all the bells and whistles including start-stop, keyless entry, touchscreen infotainment system, ABS, airbags, projector lamps and much more.
Coming to Maruti’s first utility offering this year, the S-Cross compact SUV is set to compete against the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and the upcoming Hyundai ix25 and will be available in five trims while the engine options include the 1.4-litre K-Series petrol and the 1.3-litre diesel unit. Maruti will also add the 1.5-litre diesel at a later stage on the S-Cross. In terms of features, the crossover will get keyless entry, push button start, airbags, ABS, leather seats and 16-inch alloy wheels among others. The Indian auto giant, however, has not been able to register the ‘S-Cross’ name yet and could launch the model with a new name in India.
Lastly, Maruti Suzuki is mulling to launch the new generation Vitara in India powered by a diesel engine for the first time. The arrival of the Vitara though depends on the success of the Vitara Brezza (YBA) and will only reach Indian shores by late 2016. The full-sized Vitara will be positioned above the S-Cross and will compete with a host of offerings including the Skoda Yeti, Mahindra XUV500 and also the Hyundai Santa Fe.
