Maruti XL6 strong hybrid to return over 30 km/l fuel efficiency
Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to introduce new advancements in its vehicle lineup, particularly focusing on hybrid technology. According to recent reports, the Maruti XL6 is poised to receive a strong hybrid system within the next 24 months.
This in-house developed hybrid version of the XL6 is anticipated to boast an impressive claimed mileage of over 30 km/l. The hybrid technology is expected to leverage a petrol engine as a range extender, designed to prolong the vehicle’s range without directly powering it.
The system will operate by utilising the petrol engine to generate electricity, which will then power the electric motor responsible for driving the wheels. This approach looks similar to Nissan’s e-Power technology.
Moreover, Maruti Suzuki’s ambitious plans extend beyond the XL6. The company is reportedly developing a compact MPV to compete with rivals like the Renault Kiger, along with a micro SUV aimed at challenging Tata’s Punch. Additionally, Maruti Suzuki will be introducing electric vehicles in the near future, with a budget-friendly electric hatchback based on the eVX concept unveiled last year.
The forthcoming hybrid setup is not limited to the XL6 alone. Speculations suggest that other models in Maruti Suzuki’s lineup, including the compact MPV, could also feature this hybrid technology, promising high fuel efficiency figures.
Furthermore, Maruti Suzuki’s strategic approach involves leveraging its in-house HEV system to drive down costs, indicating an effort to make hybrid technology more accessible to a wider consumer base.
