Maruti’s famous tall boy, Wagon R re-imagined as a 7-seater budget MUV.
For nearly two decades now, Maruti has been achieving strong sales through its Wagon R model. It is loved by people all over the country thanks to the practicality of the car and dependability of the Maruti brand. The Wagon R has never been below the top 5 selling cars in the country due to the huge customer base of the car.
Maruti came in with the all-new Wagon R in January 2019, in order to regain its place in the top 5 selling cars annually in the Indian market. The refreshed look of the tall boy features a bigger and more powerful engine and more practicality than its predecessors. The car is now wider and longer, with a few curves up front and in the rear of the car accentuating the looks of the car.
Thanks to the wider exterior, the Maruti Wagon R is even more spacious than before and the touch infotainment on offer is up-to-date thanks to smartphone connectivity. The car is offered with 2 engine options. A 1.0-litre K-Series petrol engine that produces 67 BHP of power at 5500 RPM and 90 Nm of torque at 3500 RPM, with a fuel efficiency of 22 km/l and a 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine that produces 81.80 BHP of power at 6000 RPM and 113 Nm of torque at 4200 RPM, with a fuel efficiency of 21.5 km/l. Both the engines are mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox or an AMT gearbox.
The tall boy design if extended to a 7-seater option as depicted in the rendering might be more practical, as the 7-seater spec of the car will be immensely spacious with extra seating for two more passengers. No doubt that if this comes to life, the car will be a budget 7-seater offered by Maruti and will sit below the current generation Ertiga. It would compete with the Datsun GO+ and might have an edge over the latter due to the fan following and demand of the Maruti brand.
