The 7-seater Wagon R imported in the country for R&D purposes and has been codenamed YJC with power coming from both petrol and diesel engine options.
Compact MPVs just might be the new fad in the following years, a segment which currently has only the Datsun GO+. However, Suzuki too has been working around the same concept and even showcased the 7-seater Wagon R at the Indonesia Motor Show last year. Codenamed ‘YJC’, the 7-seater version has been imported in the country for R&D purposes and is likely to go on sale in 2017 as an optional variant in the Wagon R lineup when the next generation version arrives.
As import data suggests, the 7-seater Maruti Wagon R measures 3700 mm in length, which is 101 mm longer than the standard Wagon R that measures 3599 mm in length. The width and height are expected to remain close to the standard model while the 2400 mm wheelbase is also likely to be retained. In terms of appearance, don’t expect a dramatic change on the next generation model but it will get a longer rear section to accommodate the third row.
That said, don’t expect the last row to be extremely spacious and will be at best suited for children. The boot space though will be negligible but a foldable last row is a given. In terms of powertrain, Maruti has imported the model with 1.2-litre K-Series petrol and 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engines. The 5-seater version is likely to continue with the potent 1.0-litre K-Series petrol mill. Transmission options are likely to include a 5-speed manual and AMT options that will also be available on the 5-seater version.
Maruti Suzuki has a host of offerings lined up for launch in the future that includes the YBA compact SUV that will be rivalling the Ford EcoSport and Mahindra TUV300 in the segment while the new Vitara is also expected to arrive later in the decade. Immediately scheduled for launch though is the Baleno premium hatchback that will go on sale on 26th October in the country via NEXA dealerships.
