A 7-seater Wagon R MPV may hit the Indian market in June 2019 and will be sold via Nexa dealerships.
Maruti is ready to launch the 7-seater variant of the Wagon R via its Nexa retail channel. However, the company is still ambiguous about this decision. This is due to the fact that the Wagon R sales have dropped down quite a bit. The new Wagon R is now underpinned by the new Heartect platform and bigger engines and this has been done in a bid to make a larger wheelbase 3-row MPV version of the car. The 7-seater car will be better equipped and will offer upmarket interiors.
The new model is likely to share the Wagon R’s K12M 1.2-litre petrol engine. The engine produces 82 BHP and has 113 Nm of peak torque. The car might be named Solio or another unique name will be given and will be offered with a 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox options. The car might also get a hybrid or an electric version in the future.
In the sub-4-metre MPV segment, Datsun is selling the GO+ 7-seater vehicle. It will soon be joined in by the Renault Triber that is based on the CMFA platform. This platform underpins the Renault Kwid and redi-GO but will be larger and better on the Triber. Maruti Will be competing against these vehicles in the market when the 7-seater Wagon R based MPV is launched.
