Maruti will soon be updating the Vitara Brezza with the petrol engine that also powers the 2018 Maruti Ciaz.
After bringing you the news about the Maruti S-Cross receiving an update to its feature list, it has now come to light that Maruti will give the Vitara Brezza a new petrol engine option. This will be the new 1.5-litre hybrid motor that also powers the 2018 Maruti CIaz.
The Maruti Vitara Brezza is currently only offered with a 1.3-litre, DDiS diesel engine that produces 88.5 HP at 4000 RPM and a peak torque of 200 Nm from 1750 RPM. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission or an AMT. The compact SUV has been lacking a petrol engine option which will change with the new petrol motor.
The 1.5-litre hybrid petrol motor is currently tuned to output 103.5 HP at 6000 RPM and 138 Nm of peak torque at 4400 RPM. It will be in the same state of tune when it starts doing duty on the Maruti Vitara Brezza. The interesting thing about this motor is its Smart Hybrid Vehicle System (SHVS) that basically does three things, switching off the engine while at a traffic signal, regenerative braking which recharges the battery under braking and assists the engine in performing better.
Safety features on the Maruti Vitara Brezza include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX child seat mounts as standard across the range. Reverse parking sensors too come as standard. Speed alarm and a seatbelt reminder for the front passengers will most likely make it to the petrol variant and even the diesel variant.
The price of the Maruti Vitara Brezza is expected to come down with the new petrol engine. While Suzuki recently unveiled the new Vitara, it is good to see Maruti giving the Indian models updates to meet the market demand.
