After waiting for 3 years for the petrol variant of the Vitara Brezza, Maruti has finally decided to introduce one.

Maruti Vitara Brezza Long Term Report
The 1.2-litre K-series petrol engine will be BS6 compliant when fitted on the car

Before the country makes a move towards implementing the BS6 norms we will get the Vitara Brezza in a petrol variant. Vitara Brezza petrol will arrive in Maruti Suzuki Arena showrooms around January 2020. Maruti Suzuki will fit the K12M engine that powers the new Wagon R on the Vitara Brezza.

The 1.2-litre K-series petrol engine produces 82 BHP and 113 Nm of peak torque, but this engine is undergoing changes to comply with the BS6 norms. Hence, we may assume that it will receive a few minor tweaks in the power figures. The engine will come with a 5-speed manual transmission and 5-speed AMT gearbox options.

The car might not feature drastic mechanical changes but may get a mid-cycle facelift along with the BS6 compliance. To keep the looks fresh and updated with the rest of the competition, few cosmetic tweaks here and there are expected. The infotainment system will also adopt the Smartplay Studio touchscreen and app-based interface.

The Indian manufacturer has also phased out the production of diesel engines as the conversion of smaller displacement engine to BS6 is a costly affair. The company will get the BS6 petrol engine directly for the Vitara Brezza, skipping on any BS4 model prior to this launch. The project for the petrol version of the Vitara Brezza has only taken place at the start of this fiscal year.

Maruti might also be planning to get a 1.5-litre diesel version of the Vitara Brezza that will be powered by a new in-house engine that is seen on the Ciaz and Ertiga. Maruti might also look into the aspect of using a petrol hybrid powertrain as a variant for the vehicle in the future.
