Maruti Suzuki CNG Teaser

Maruti Suzuki teases new Brezza and Fronx CNG models, hinting at new tech

Maruti Suzuki has released a teaser video hinting at the introduction of new CNG technology. It is either an automatic transmission option for the Fronx and Brezza models or it could be the twin-cylinder tech to save space. This move is in line with the company’s strategy to expand its already extensive CNG portfolio, which currently includes S-CNG versions of the Alto, S-Presso, Celerio, Wagon R, Dzire, Ertiga, Baleno, Fronx, Brezza, XL6 and Grand Vitara. Soon it will be available with the new generation Swift as well.

The teaser video, shared on Maruti Suzuki’s social media platforms, has sparked speculation about the upcoming technology. The Fronx and Brezza, which already have CNG variants, prominently feature in the video, suggesting that the new offering could either be an automatic transmission variant or an updated CNG technology.

Automatic transmission will be a surprising addition to their CNG range and help boost their sales significantly. This combination is currently being offered with Tata Tiago and Tigor CNG variants only. It is currently under development for the Nexon CNG as well. However, if not automatic, then it could be the twin-cylinder technology that adds boot space capacity by offering two small sized CNG fuel cylinders in the boot.

Maruti Suzuki has been at the forefront of promoting CNG vehicles, capitalising on their high fuel efficiency and lower emissions. The company’s S-CNG kit, which includes a specialised injection system, optimises the air-fuel mixture during combustion, resulting in consistent performance and improved fuel economy. Additionally, Maruti has fine-tuned the suspension and braking systems of its CNG vehicles to ensure they perform well.

One of the main drawbacks of CNG vehicles is the reduced boot space due to the large size of the CNG tanks. To address this issue, Maruti Suzuki might introduce a new twin-cylinder CNG technology, similar to Tata’s system, which significantly saves boot space. This technology, currently used in Maruti’s Super Carry LCV, involves two 35-litre CNG tanks arranged parallel to each other. If implemented in the Fronx and Brezza, this innovation could make CNG vehicles more appealing to consumers by freeing up additional storage space.

As the automotive market increasingly favors CNG vehicles for their cost effectiveness and lower environmental impact, Maruti Suzuki’s efforts to enhance its CNG offerings are timely. The potential introduction of automatic CNG variants for the Fronx and Brezza, along with new CNG technologies, could strengthen the brand’s position in the competitive Indian market.
