Maruti Suzuki showcased the SX4 S-Cross at the 2014 Auto Expo and this vehicle will be launched in the Indian market next year. This is a proper crossover unlike the Skoda Fabia Scout and Volkswagen Cross Polo. It has been widely speculated that the new S-Cross will feature a 1.6-litre diesel engine sourced from Fiat but now it is time to kill this rumour. It has been learnt that Maruti Suzuki has been testing the SX4 S-Cross with a 1.6-litre diesel engine sourced from Peugeot.
This engine has been jointly developed by PSA Peugeot Citroen and Ford and it is used by the latter in some of its vehicles too. This DV6 1.6-litre CRDI diesel engine is available in two states of tune – 90 HP FGT and 110 HP VGT. Since the SX4 Cross will be positioned as a premium vehicle, we can expect it to come with the 110 HP state of tune. The MINI Cooper Diesel is also powered by the same engine. The engine uses a relatively large turbocharger. The plumbing comes with big plastic covers and the intercooler carries a strange design.
The Suzuki SX4 S-Cross scored a 5-star rating in Euro NCAP tests and it also comes with ALLGRIP technology. The vehicle is very well designed and looks classy and well-proportioned from all angles. The design is nothing extraordinary but the S-Cross offers much more than any regular premium hatchback. Since it carries a Maruti badge and comes with the famed after-sales service, we can be quite sure that the SX4 S-Cross will really give some sleepless nights to its rivals. It will be seen fighting it out with the Ford EcoSport majorly but we can expect buyers of premium hatchbacks like the Hyundai i20 and Volkswagen Polo to also consider this crossover.
