The Maruti Swift RS is likely to remodel the success of the Baleno RS.
While the all-new Swift was launched at the 2018 Auto Expo, it has come to light that the company will be lining up another vehicle behind it- the Maruti Suzuki Swift RS hatchback. It is likely to be available in the Indian market by the first quarter of 2019. Maruti hasn’t made any official statement about this yet though.
A sport version of the Swift is already made available in international markets under the alias Swift Sport. This vehicle draws its power from a 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine with a 138 HP and 230 Nm output. But it is unlikely that this model will be sold in India.
However, the Swift RS may use the Baleno RS’s specifications and use the same 1.0-litre BoosterJet motor that can churn out 100 HP and 150 Nm torque. This is a significant increase from the standard Swift’s output numbers which come to 81 HP and 113 Nm of torque at its best.
The Swift RS is likely Maruti’s competition to the Tata Tiago JTP which stole the competition from the Baleno RS. The current Swift is priced at Rs. 7.32 lakhs (ex-showroom) and the RS variant is likely to come with a price tag of Rs. 7.9-8.1 lakhs off the showroom floor.
The Swift RS will come with some minor changes to the interiors and the exteriors like in the Baleno RS. It is likely that the vehicle will come with side-skirts and different rims to distinguish it from the standard vehicle.
