Maruti Swift, Ignis and S-Presso new crash test results out
Maruti Swift, Ignis and S-Presso Global NCAP crash test results out. All three hatchbacks score a disappointing 1 star rating for Adult Occupant Protection. While the Swift scored 1 star for Child Occupant Protection, Ignis and S-Presso scored 0 stars.
These fresh crash tests are being conducted by Global NCAP under their new and more stringent test protocols. The Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq were the first two cars to be tested under these new Global NCAP protocols.
While the Mahindra Scorpio-N scored full five stars in these crash tests, the Maruti siblings were a big disappointment.
The Maruti Swift and S-Presso tested previously in Global NCAP scored 2 and 0 stars respectively. Now with the updated parameters, the hatchbacks scored 1 each. The Ignis has been tested for the first time in Global NCAP.
All three Maruti cars’ bodyshells were rated as unstable in the crash test. The footwell area for Swift and S-Presso was rated as unstable while the Ignis’ footwell area was rated as stable.
India’s largest carmaker with over 50 percent market share should consider improving the safety aspect across the lineup. While safety features play an important role during a crash, the structure of the vehicle is most important.
