Maruti Swift CNG price announcement next week, to be available in multiple trims

Maruti Suzuki is set to introduce a CNG variant of the Swift in India, with the price likely to be revealed on 12th September. This launch will mark the entry of the CNG-powered Swift, based on the latest-generation petrol model, which was launched in May 2024.

Multiple Trims Expected for Swift CNG

The Swift CNG is anticipated to be offered in multiple trim levels, although it remains unclear if the CNG option will extend to the top-spec variants. The model will be powered by the Z12E engine – a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol unit, paired with a single-cylinder CNG setup, similar to other CNG models in Maruti’s lineup. This will be the first time the Z12E engine is coupled with CNG and it is expected that more Maruti models will adopt this configuration in the future.

Features and Expected Pricing

The CNG version of the Swift is likely to carry the same feature set as its petrol counterpart, which includes the standard safety and convenience features seen in the current generation. The price is expected to be approximately Rs. 80,000 to Rs. 90,000 higher than the equivalent petrol variants, aligning with the pricing strategy seen with other CNG offerings from Maruti Suzuki.

Maruti’s CNG Sales Target for FY25

Maruti Suzuki’s introduction of the Swift CNG comes as part of the brand’s broader strategy to expand its CNG vehicle portfolio. CNG models currently account for 34 percent of Maruti’s total sales, with a significant 37 percent year-on-year growth in this segment. Maruti Suzuki holds a commanding 73 percent share of CNG car and SUV sales in India and has set a target of selling over 6 lakh CNG vehicles in FY25.

This move reflects the growing demand for more fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly vehicles in India, as rising fuel prices and stricter emission norms are driving consumers towards alternative fuel options like CNG.

With the upcoming launch of the Swift CNG, Maruti Suzuki is poised to strengthen its position in the CNG vehicle market, offering a wider range of eco-friendly alternatives to Indian consumers.
