Maruti Suzuki is preparing to launch an all new sedan by 2014, codenamed YL1. The C-segment sedan is intended to compete with the likes of the Hyundai Verna, Honda City, Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid and so on. The YL1 sedan has recently been spied uncamouflaged by our friends at Team-BHP. The pictures reveal the new design and Suzuki Authentics derived styling. The front end gives you a sense of Honda Accord with a wide and sharp fascia that includes heavy dosage of chrome strips on the wide grille along with a broad wrap around headlamp cluster featuring projectors.
The hood of the Maruti YL1 is long and the front bumper is treated with sharp and sporty styling. On the side, it reveals a sharp shoulder line that connects with the rear. It is likely to retain the huge ground clearance as seen on the SX4. At the rear, it gets a wide set of tail lamps with a chrome garnish in between and a well-sized bumper. On the inside, expect the automaker to share the interior elements with the Swift siblings along with some premium add-ons. The leg room of the sedan is said to be at par with the Nissan Sunny.
It is yet to be known if the YL1 sedan is a replacement of the SX4 or if Maruti Suzuki plans to sell the SX4 alongside it after launch. It will be powered by both diesel and petrol engine options including the Fiat sourced 1.3-litre diesel engine and 1.4-litre K-Series petrol motor. The YL1 will follow the traditional lineup of variants – LXi, VXi, ZXi, LDi, VDi and ZDi. The range topping models will be equipped with 16-inch wheels bolted onto 195 section tyres, while the base variant will come with 15-inchers. We can expect the YL1 to be priced aggressively with a slightly higher price over the SX4.
