Maruti Suzuki to increase prices by up to 4% from April 2025, citing rising costs

Maruti Suzuki has announced a price hike of up to 4% across its vehicle lineup, effective April 2025. The company attributes this decision to rising input costs and operational expenses, as outlined in a regulatory filing on 17th March, 2025.

In its official statement to the National Stock Exchange of India Limited and BSE Limited, Maruti Suzuki emphasised its ongoing efforts to optimise costs and reduce the burden on consumers. However, it acknowledged that some of the increased costs would have to be passed on through revised pricing.

The price adjustment comes amid broader economic challenges affecting the Indian automotive industry, including rising raw material prices and supply chain disruptions. With Maruti Suzuki holding a dominant 40% share of the country’s passenger vehicle market, industry analysts anticipate that other manufacturers may also implement similar price increases in the coming months to cope with inflation and fluctuating commodity prices.

While the company has not disclosed specific details about the models that will see the highest increases, past trends suggest that the adjustments will be varied across its extensive portfolio, which ranges from entry-level hatchbacks to premium SUVs.

This latest announcement follows a series of price increases by major automakers in response to escalating costs. In December 2024, Maruti Suzuki had already announced a price hike of up to 4%, citing rising input costs. Subsequently, in January 2025, the company implemented price increases ranging from Rs. 1500 to Rs. 32500 on different models, effective from 1st February, 2025.

Other leading automobile manufacturers have also taken similar steps. Mahindra raised prices on its SUV and commercial vehicle range by up to 3% starting January 2025, citing inflation and higher commodity costs. Hyundai followed suit, increasing prices across its entire lineup by up to Rs. 25,000/-, effective from 1st January, 2025.
