Maruti Suzuki will soon be unleashing the Alto 800 on Indian roads, positioning it as an entry level offering. The vehicle seems to have arrived at a few Maruti Suzuki stock yards in the country and Team-BHP member Diesel lover managed to snap a few images too. The pictures show the CNG tank in the boot and thus its safe to say that CNG variant will be provided on the Alto 800 since day one. There is a CNG sticker on the rear windshield as well.
The other pictures reveal the Ford Figo inspired front end and Hyundai Eon inspired tail lights. The vehicle seems to be built to a price, which the quality levels of the car clearly show. The LXi model is equipped with full wheel covers and even a driver side airbag. The interiors of the Alto 800 are an improvement over the regular Alto F8 but still lack in quality and design. The power window switches are placed in the centre, which are inconvenient to operate.
Maruti Suzuki is likely to price the Alto 800 at around Rs. 2 lakhs, a price at which it would compete with the Tata Nano. Power will come in from the same 800cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine which does duty on the regular Alto. The Alto 800 will be launched next month and will be a volume player for the company. With CNG option being offered, the Alto 800 will be the cheapest Maruti to run. Expect mileage figures to be close to 20 km/l (under standard test conditions).
