The MPV segment is booming and the Toyota Innova and Mahindra Xylo are living examples of that. Maruti Suzuki doesn’t want to be left out in this segment and is planning to launch the R-III MPV in the 8 lakh bracket. The R-III concept will be unveiled at the Auto Expo and will carry three rows of seats. Its is based on a stretched SX4 platform and is made by Maruti’s Indian engineers. However the best part about the R-III is its monocoque construction leading to better driving dynamics and more car like feel. We can pretty much guess the car will be powered by the 1.2L K-Series engine from the Ritz or the 1.6 M-Series engine from the SX4. Diesel will follow shortly in the form of the famous 1.3 Multijet but with VGT.
