Maruti Suzuki is celebrating a major milestone of the Swift selling over 30 lakh units worldwide. The Swift hatchback is the king of its segment selling in huge volumes in India. Maruti Suzuki has introduced a limited edition variant for the Swift named as Swift Star to celebrate this major milestone. The limited edition variant features six additions including a double-din audio system with Bluetooth connectivity, art leather seat covers, rear spoiler, 2 speakers, steering wheel cover and designer floor mats.
The Maruti Swift Star is only available with the base and middle trim models (L and V) at an additional cost of Rs. 23,000/-. Currently the Indian car market is going through a sluggish sales phase where manufacturers are offering huge discounts on cars. Maruti Suzuki also announced discount schemes on the Swift for the first time along with a promise of instant delivery of the vehicle which never happened before since its launch in 2005. These tactics can help the manufacturer boost enough sales amidst the slow selling scenario in the Indian car market.
The tech specs for the limited edition version remain unchanged and it is available with both petrol and diesel options. The 1.2-litre K-series petrol engine produces a maximum power of 86 BHP with a peak torque of 114 Nm while the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel motor is capable of producing 74 BHP of maximum power with 190 Nm of peak torque. Both the engines are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The Swift comes with a starting price of Rs. 4.44 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi) and competes with the likes of Hyundai i20, Chevrolet Sail U-VA and Volkswagen Polo.
