Maruti Suzuki Swift crosses a big milestone of 30 lakh sales, first launched in 2005
Maruti Suzuki Swift, one of the most popular models from Maruti, has surpassed the 30 lakh sales mark in India. The Swift, which was first introduced to the Indian market in 2005, has achieved this significant milestone in 19 years. The car is now in its fourth generation, which was recently launched and has contributed to reaching this landmark.
Since its introduction nearly two decades ago, the Swift has remained a top seller for Maruti in India. The hatchback has continued to attract buyers despite the growing popularity of affordable SUVs in recent years. Notably, the Swift crossed the 25 lakh sales milestone in September 2021, meaning it took less than three years to sell an additional 5 lakh units.
The latest generation of the Swift is powered by a new 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated, Z-Series petrol engine that delivers 82 HP and 112 Nm of peak torque. This engine is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission and offers an optional AMT. Additionally, a new CNG powertrain is expected to be introduced later this year.
In terms of equipment, the Swift comes with a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 4.2-inch MID in the instrument cluster, a wireless phone charger, rear AC vents, LED fog lamps, cruise control, auto climate control, push-button start/stop, steering-mounted controls, a rear camera and power-adjustable and folding wing mirrors. For safety, it is equipped with six airbags, ABS with EBD, hill start assist, ESC and more.
The Maruti Swift is priced between Rs. 6.49 lakhs to Rs. 9.50 lakhs (ex-showroom). It competes with models such as the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, Tata Tiago and Citroen C3 in the Indian market. The Swift’s blend of features, performance and pricing continues to make it a strong contender in the hatchback segment.
