Maruti Suzuki Manesar plant now has a total production capacity of 9 lakh units
Maruti Suzuki, a leading car manufacturer in India, recently inaugurated a new vehicle assembly line at its Manesar plant. This expansion aims to bolster the existing capabilities of the facility by an additional 1,00,000 units per annum. The introduction of this assembly line marks a significant milestone for Maruti Suzuki, enhancing its production capacity to meet the growing demands of the market.
The Manesar facility has been pivotal in Maruti Suzuki’s journey, contributing over 95 lakh units towards the company’s remarkable 3 Crore production milestone. This plant has been the birthplace of several best-selling vehicles, including the Brezza, Ertiga, XL6, Wagon R, Dzire, S-Presso, Ciaz and Celerio.
Addressing the inauguration event, Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, reiterated the company’s commitment to the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ vision. He outlined ambitious plans to nearly double the company’s capacity to 4 million vehicles per annum over the next 7-8 years, with the recent capacity addition being a pivotal step towards this objective. Mr. Takeuchi emphasised that this enhancement in capacity would not only enable faster service to customers but also elevate the overall manufacturing capability of the facility to up to 23.5 lakh units per annum.
Furthermore, Mr. Takeuchi highlighted the incorporation of advanced technologies in the new assembly line, focusing on human ergonomics, productivity improvement and traceability enhancement.
The Manesar facility, which commenced operations in February 2007 with the inauguration of Plant A, has witnessed steady expansion over the years in response to escalating customer demand. Plant-B was added in 2011, followed by Plant-C in 2013, further augmenting the manufacturing capabilities of Maruti Suzuki.
