Maruti Suzuki has launched the Wagon R Stingray in the Indian market, with a starting price of Rs. 4.10 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Wagon R Stingray is a premium version of the Wagon R which gets unique front-end styling along with more features. Like the regular Wagon R, Maruti Suzuki has offered the Wagon R Stingray in three variants – LXi, VXi and VXi option pack. The Wagon R Stingray is powered the same tried and tested 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, K-Series motor which produces 68 PS and 90 Nm. It is coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox and the claimed mileage is same as the regular Wagon R which is 20.51 km/l.
Maruti Suzuki has given the Wagon R Stingray a body kit and the front bumper is all new with a large radiator grille. The top-end model also gets segment first projector headlights. The grille has a glass cover and the flat hood makes the Stingray look very different. The roof rails have been removed and the rear adorns clear lens tail lights. 14-inch gun metal alloy wheels fill the wheel arches very well.

On the interior front, the Wagon R Stingray gets all black interiors instead of dual tone ones. Piano black finishing has been added on the dashboard and doors to give that premium feel. The layout of the dashboard remains the same but the instrument cluster now displays distance to empty and real time mileage. ABS, driver side airbag, electrically adjustable rear view mirrors, steering mounted audio controls and projector headlights are offered in the top trim of the Wagon R Stingray. It is available in five exterior colour options – blue, red, grey, white and silver.

Maruti Suzuki has surely taken a bold step by bringing the Stingray in India, which boasts of zilch mechanical changes over the regular Wagon R. The hatchback segment is a very price sensitive one, so it remains to be seen if buyers will be ready to shell out the extra amount for a vehicle which looks different from other hatchbacks. A 1.2-litre K-Series engine under the hood of this Wagon R would have added some much need sting but Maruti Suzuki believes in exterior changes over performance ones.
