Maruti Suzuki has imported multiple Jimny CKD kits to India and it is said the shipments are awaiting customs clearance at present.
It was only recently that the country’s top automaker revealed that it will be launching two new SUVs and an MPV in India, starting from 2021.
The first one on the list is the Jimny, specifically in 5-door form, and it will be retailed through the premium Nexa retail outlets. Two other cars will also be sold through the same route.
With the production version set to be launched here next year, the Maruti Jimny CKD kits could have been imported to kick-start the manufacturing process in India.
Also, it is said Maruti is looking to produce 4000 to 5000 units of the Jimny in India, with most of the manufactured units slated for exports.
Shown at the 2020 Auto Expo, the compact SUV comes powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 100 BHP mated to 5-speed manual or a 4-speed auto. Suzuki’s Allgrip Pro 4×4 system is offered with the compact SUV in the global market for better off-road capabilities.
Recently, it was revealed that the fourth-generation Suzuki Jimny would be axed in Europe due to tighter emissions regulations, which Suzuki thinks would make it unviable to continue manufacturing or selling the car there.
Suzuki had already revealed that it will stop selling the SUV in European nations from next 2021. But, it is reported that sales of the Jimny would be coming to a halt by this year.
