The unveil of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara marks the Indo-Japanese maker’s entry into the midsize SUV segment

Maruti Suzuki made a grand entry into the lucrative midsize SUV segment with the global unveil of the all-new Grand Vitara. To be sold exclusively via the company’s premium Nexa showrooms, the unveil also marks Nexa’s 7th anniversary.

Featuring Nexa’s signature design language, the Grand Vitara sports a distinct exterior design, sophisticated interiors, many segment-leading features, and an industry redefining fuel efficiency through its hybrid powertrain.

According to Maruti Suzuki, the SUV’s design philosophy manifests itself upon 3 major pillars: NEXpression – artfully designed exteriors and interiors, crafted to perfection, NEXTech – revolutionary technology catering to the new age customers’ needs, and NEXperience – experiences that are truly about driving a Nexa vehicle.

The proper midsize SUV from Maruti Suzuki

With its bold SUV stance, muscular wheel arches, sweeping shoulders, R17 precision cut alloy wheels, and Nexa’s signature design elements, the Grand Vitara offers distinct road presence.

Its NEXWave grille with rich hi-gloss black and dark chrome accentuation, unique NEXTre’ signature elements – 3 element LED DRLs with integrated turn-lamp in front and complimenting 3-element sweeping LED tail lamp add to the looks.

There are 2 trims on offer – Progressive Smart Hybrid and Intelligent Electric Hybrid. The former gets Rich Chrome finish front grille garnish while the latter gets Dark Chrome finish.

The SUV will be manufactured by Toyota

On the inside, the instrument panel gets bold sweeping elements and Rich Black Faux Leather upholstery with champagne gold accents and matching stitch pattern in Intelligent Electric Hybrid trim and Bordeaux Faux Leather with high Luminant Silver accents in Smart
Hybrid trim.

Complimenting Rich Faux Leather with matching accents on the doors, Piano Black finishes inside offer good cabin experience. Further 3D sculpted driver and co-driver ventilated seats take comfort a step above.

Power comes from 2 powertrains. The Intelligent Electric Hybrid trim gets a 1.5-litre self-charging strong hybrid powertrain. There are 4 modes on offer – EV, Eco, Power, and Normal. It offers a best-in-class fuel efficiency of 27.97 km/l.

The rear gets connected tail lamps

The Progressive Smart Hybrid trim gets the 1.5-litre next-gen K-series dual jet, dual VVT engine with brake energy regeneration, torque assist, idle stop start, and a fuel-efficiency of 21.11 km/l for MT, 20.58 km/l for AT, and 19.38 km/l for the AWD variants.

Transmission include an e-CVT for Intelligent Electric Hybrid trim and 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters or 5-speed manual in the Progressive Smart Hybrid trim.

The SUV also comes with Suzuki ALLGRIP SELECT legendry off-roading prowess providing intelligent all-wheel drive capability as per drive condition. There are 4 modes – Auto, Sport, Snow, and Lock.

The SUV measures 4345 mm in length, 1645 mm in height, 1795 mm in width, and 2600 mm in wheelbase.

The overall design is based on its cousin Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder

As far as powertrain figures go, the the Hybrid powertrain puts out 113.99 HP (91.19 HP by engine alone) and 122 Nm. The Smart Hybrid powertrain exerts 101.65 HP and 136.8 Nm.

The features on offer include colored head-up display showing turn-by-turn navigation, speed, RPM, fuel economy, and other important notifications, 360 degree camera with approaching object detection and dynamic reverse gridlines, and 9-inch Smart Play Pro+ infotainment system with HD display with connected tech.

Further the car gets premium sound system with signature ambiences created to suit every mood, in-built voice assist system triggered with the ‘Hi Suzuki’ command, wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Qi-certified wireless charger with LED indicator, device left alert system, and over-heating protection.

The NEXWave grille gets rich hi-gloss black and dark chrome accentuation

Boosting the connected car experience, the Grand Vitara offers Suzuki Connect with more than 40 connected features like remote AC operation, vehicle safety and security, location
and trips, vehicle status and alerts among others.

Customers can access these and many more features through the Suzuki Connect app
on smartphone, smartwatch, and Alexa Skill.

The SUV, for the first time on a Maruti Suzuki, offers a panoramic sunroof with double slide mechanism and class-leading opening area. The all-new full digital instrument cluster displays all vital information on a colored screen.

The skid plates are large

The SUV is built on the acclaimed Suzuki TECT platform (Global C-platform). The Grand Vitara is secured with the NEXA Safety Shield with a host of active and passive safety features.

They include 6 airbags (front, side, and curtain), Electronic Stability Program (ESP) with Hill Hold Assist, 3-point ELR seat belts (all seats) and rear disc, Hill Descent Control, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

There are 2 exclusive genuine NEXA accessory theme collections – ENIGMAX and ENIGMAX X on offer. The Grand Vitara will be offered in 6 monotone and 3 dual-tone color options.

The headlamps get black surrounds

Along with the unveil, Maruti Suzuki announced the launch of NEXA showrooms in
the virtual world through the NEXAVerse. Through this pioneering VR (Virtual Reality) engagement, customers will be able to fully experience the Grand Vitara on Metaverse. To experience the Grand Vitara in the NEXAVerse, customers can visit the nearest NEXA showroom.

Bookings are already underway for a token amount of Rs. 11,000/- for the Grand Vitara. Deliveries are likely to commence from August or September.

The ventilated seats are a great addition

Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara is expected to become a truly global product with exports planned for Europe as well as Africa. It will replace the current international Grand Vitara for which a generation change has been long overdue.

Developed jointly with Toyota, the all-new Grand Vitara is essentially the Urban Cruiser Hyryder’s cousin sharing almost everything with it.
