Maruti Suzuki will be launching the Ertiga MPV on the 12th of April 2012. The Japanese automaker is currently conducting media drives for select media in Goa, while at the same time shooting the TV commercial of the upcoming MPV in Delhi. The above Maruti Ertiga was spotted at a traffic signal in Delhi, with a video camera fitted inside the car. There was a model with a child on the rear seat and an elderly women on the front seat. Ironically there was a Toyota Innova right next to the Ertiga MPV.
Maruti Suzuki was expected to launch the Ertiga by now, but delayed it due to the Union Budget. The Ertiga will feature a petrol and diesel engine, both of which are expected to return good fuel efficiency. The petrol powered Ertiga uses a new 1.4-litre K14M engine, which produces 94 BHP of peak power at 6000 RPM and 13.25 KGM of peak torque at 4000 RPM. The diesel Ertiga on the other hand produces 89 BHP of peak power at 4000 RPM and 20.39 KGM of peak torque at 1750 RPM. Both the engines are available with a 5-speed manual, while Maruti Suzuki might look at offering a automatic variant on the petrol variant sometime later.
Maruti Suzuki has used many parts and components from vehicles including the Ritz, Swift and SX4. This will result in an aggressive price for the Ertiga, which is expected to start around Rs. 6.5 lakhs for the base petrol LXi and going up all the way to Rs. 9.5 lakhs for the top-end diesel ZDI (all price estimated are ex-showroom, Delhi). There is very little to guess then, that the Ertiga MPV will repeat the success story of the Swift and will command a waiting period within a few days of launch.
