Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Pros & Cons
The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has been around for more than half a decade now. The MPV has gone through quite a few upgrades and facelifts as well, with the latest and possibly the biggest one coming in 2018 itself, being a generation change. It is no exaggeration that Maruti Suzuki has managed to impress a lot of us with the smooth over-all experience of this car. The company has also been keeping the car available with variants like L, V, Z and Z+, which has made it possible for buyers to get a car that is more suited to their taste. Here are 4 pros and cons of the new, second generation Ertiga.
Pros:
Cabin Space: The new generation Ertiga is quite a spacious 7-seater with increased width in all the rows. This means there is more legroom for all the seats. The rear doors open nice and wide and the windows are big in size, providing a ride in the rear seats without feeling claustrophobic.
Ride Quality: The suspension is set up on the softer ride, giving the ride a comfortable feel without much of the bumps being felt inside. This provides for a comfortable driving experience even on bad roads.
Smart Hybrid Technology: The petrol version of the new Ertiga is now offered with the second generation hybrid system. This gives the car slight improvements in performance and fuel efficiency. The petrol Smart Hybrid uses a Lithium-ion battery to offer torque assist.
Maintenance & Resale Value: Maruti Suzuki is the largest car-maker in India. The resale value of their cars is impeccable and so is their service network as Maruti alone has more outlets than all other car makers combined.
Cons:
No Upgrades To The Diesel Engine: The diesel engine offered in the new Ertiga is the same one seen in the older generation. The diesel engine is not as refined and has lag at lower RPMs. Maruti Suzuki has not put a diesel automatic on offer either
Inefficient Petrol Automatic: The petrol automatic is an old-school 4-speed unit that lacks enthusiasm. Maruti does not offer the automatic version in the top-spec Z+ trim either, so there is no touchscreen for the automatic.
Missing Features: The second generation Ertiga is loaded with features. However, it does miss out on some like automatic headlamps and automatic wipers. These features are offered in the Brezza as well as the Ciaz. At this price point, there is an expectation for features like these.
Not Fun To Drive: The new Ertiga lacks enthusiasm. The steering lacks feel and there is noticeable body-roll. The car is too soft for spirited driving. The tyres make a screeching sound under heavy braking as well. In comparison, the other MPVs like the Mahindra Marazzo and Toyota Innova Crysta, do have some character.
